Baysong Eco-tours

offers exclusive kayak and canoe paddling adventures on the Morro Bay National Estuary. The tours are varied in time and scope; each having a different focus, but always with wildlife observation, and wetland ecology and environmental education as the core intention.
Mandy Davis, head naturalist, and all of Baysong’s guides, are extremely knowledgeable about the estuary and it’s watershed and have years of education and experience with wildlife and their behaviors. Additionally, we have decades of paddling experience and possess requisite rescue and safety certifications.
All tours include kayak (or canoe) rental, expert instruction, educational materials, and of course fun and adventure for all. We will accomodate special events and large groups with ample notice, and can develop curricula for multi-day corporate and private retreats.

Full Moon Magic

Moon MagicMagic - There's nothing more magical, more other-worldly than a paddle on
the moonlit estuary. It's extraordinarily beautiful ..... watching the
full moon reflected in the slightly rippling waters from your vantage
point near the eastern shore of the lagoon boundary. As we paddle the
spit's shore, the occasional sihouette of a buck can be seen. Gracefull shapes of herons fishing in the shallows can be easily discerned under the growing light of the rising moon. We'll tour the rookery, grass islands and circle round to the back bay before returning home from our evening's paddle ..... MAGICAL!

Birding by the Bay:

PelicanLearn about the Pacific Flyway
migration and the birds that depend on Morrro Bay Estuary as their home. all
birding levels will be accommodated whether you're a beginner or expert,
everyone with an interest in bird biology and identiificationis welcome. Starting at the State Park Marina, your guide Kara Hagedorn will use a spotting scope to review bird groups from sandpipers to raptors. Resident birds and winter migrants will be discussed along with I.D. resources. After a quick paddling lesson, we will hit the water and visit several prime bird habitats while we discuss feeding echniques and anatomy. We'll paddle over to the sandspit and enjoy a sack lunch before we hike over the dunes to see the birds that prefer the ocean side beach and surf zone.

Critters and Creatures

OtterSome of the best opportunities to veiw wildlife on Morro Bay are at low tide during the daylight hours....So it's off to paddle the far reaches of the estuary on one of the lowest tides of the month. We'll search for our creature freinds; from otters to ospreys, bat rays to brittle stars, pinnepeds to peregrines. Your guide knows all (well, maybe not all) their little hidey holes, and we're gonna visit a bunch of them! The day will be perfect for experiencing the live sand dollars in the sand spit shallows, viewing the birds feeding on the grassy islands, and slowly cruising by the harbor seal haul-out to watch these gental critters scratch & snooze on the back bay mudflats. So join us for an enjoyable paddle and the critter-experience of a lifetime.

Dawn Patrol:

Nothing could be more serene and at
the same time envigorating than a paddle in the early morning estuary light.
It is quiet, yet filled with the noises of critters greeting the day and looking hungrily for their first meal. come join us for this quiet commune with the beauty of Morro Bay.

(time varies)

Baysong eco torThis four hour tour is designed to give
you a broad overveiw of the estuary and the habitats that are encompassed within this extraordinary eco-system.  we'll enjoy the panoramic views of the entire estuary and it's watershed before heading down to the marina to experience what we saw from above up-close-and-personal. after an extensive paddling lesson we'll head out to visit the rookery, grass islands,  local shell midden sites, and the diverse and secluded sanspit. be sure to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy during our sandspit stopover and a bag for some 'treasures" you may find along the beach side of the spit. we'll end our circuit by paddling home by the mud flats and salt marshes in the creek deltas. this tour is packed with all kinds of interesting information about the history, geology and biology of the area. this tour is moderately active and can be appreciated by almost any age participan

Saturday Sandspit Sunset

Sandpit Join us every Saturday evening for the soul satisfying experience of watching the sun set over the pacific. From our launch point at the Marina, we'll make a bee-line for the big sand dunes on the sand spit due west. It's just a short climb from the shore to the top of our golden vantage point, where you can experience a 360' veiw of the ocean, Morro Rock, the mainland and the estuary. Watching the sunset from such a pristine location is an experience that will not be soon forgotten, and very few people on earth will ever have the opportunity to see. Treat yourself to a beatufull, lifelong memory.
